SAM BAT would like to congratulate the Toronto Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista, the Colorado Rockies’ Carlos Gonzalez and the Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera on their tremendous 2010 seasons!
Bautista hit a major league best 54 home runs, beating the next closest competitor by a whopping 12 big flies. He also became only the 26th player in MLB history—and first since 2007—to eclipse the 50 home run plateau. Leading the major leagues in home runs was no easy task, but his dedication and perseverance were more than evident.
In addition to being recognized league-wide, Bautista set the single-season record for most home runs by a Blue Jay, surpassing George Bell’s mark of 47, set back in 1987. Bautista was also awarded co-player of the week in the American League on August 1 and shared AL Player of the Month honours in July. Not to be overlooked, though, was his selection for the 2010 MLB All-Star game in Anaheim, the first of his career.
Gonzalez had a breakout 2010 season for the Rockies, during which he won the National League batting crown and set career highs with 34 home runs, 117 RBI and 111 runs scored. Gonzalez also hit for the cycle on July 31 against the Chicago Cubs, capping it off with a dramatic walk off home run.
Carbrera also set personal bests in 2010, smashing a career high 38 home runs and recording a .622 slugging percentage, the highest in his eight year career. An American League MVP candidate with a league leading 126 RBI, Cabrera showed why he is one of the most feared sluggers in all of baseball.
We wish Jose, Carlos and Miguel great success in the future, and to keep setting records with those SAM BATs!
